2013 is turning out to be one of the most exciting years for Ramona Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/MMA. Many competition titles have been won, students are getting into shape, and a change in location is planned.
The RBJJ competition team has been training hard and the results have shown that their hard work is paying off.
In their most recent competitions the RBJJ competition team has taken home 3 overall titles, 12 individual 1st places, 9 individual 2nd places, and 5 individual 3rd places.
In the Grappling X California State Gi Championships the RBJJ competition team took 1st overall in the adults division and 3rd overall in the kids and teens division.
The competition included schools from all over southern California, including most Jiu Jitsu schools in San Diego. Although most of the school’s outnumbered the RBJJ team, the quality of training and perseverance led nearly all of the RBJJ competitors to place in their divisions.
Taking first at the competition were; Berlin Kiddoo, Jay Friend Jr., Matthew Mendoza, Savannah Kiddoo, Nathan Kiddoo, Jesse Deaver, Isaac Rorholm, and Dani Taylor. Placing second were; Adon Yoder, Wyatt Jones, Jay Friend Sr., and Raul Leyva. Also, placing third in their divisions were; Ian Alexander, Maryann Perea, Chloe Forman, and Jovana McCreary 3rd.
All of the competitors fought hard and gained the respect of their teammates and opponents.
At the most recent Operation Grapple tournament the RBJJ team dominated all other visiting teams and took first place overall.
Although it was a hot day at the Wildomar sports center, the team outperformed all of the other Jiu Jitsu schools competing.
Logan Mahaffey, Gabriel Kiddoo, Berlin Kiddoo, and Matthew Duvalian all took first in the their divisions. Jay Friend Jr., Hunter Mahaffey, Savannah Kiddoo, Olivia Papps, and Jay Friend Sr. faced tough competition and were able to pull second places. Nathan Kiddoo fought in a mixed belt division, and after facing higher-ranking fighters, was able to finish in third place.
new-art
In addition to a dominant competition team, Ramona Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/MMA’s Muay Thai class has seen an incredible growth.
Muay Thai is not a typical cardio kickboxing class, but is a combat sport from Thailand that uses stand-up striking and clinching techniques. The students learn striking with their fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet, which makes for a very efficient full-contact fight. Several students are now preparing for an upcoming exhibition tournament.
On September 1st Ramona Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/MMA will be moving to 2102 Main Street, Suite 3, which is one block down from Denny’s and is in the same building as San Vicente Realty. The new gym will nearly double the training area and will include a new and improved viewing area for families and visitors. The new mat space will also provide room for more striking bags for the stand-up/MMA classes. With the new space there will be an addition of more classes as well, giving members several opportunities to learn martial arts and to get in shape. With the new facility Ramona Jiu Jitsu will also be inviting other teams from around San Diego to participate in its own in-house tournaments.
Ramona Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/MMA is a locally owned family training center. They offer a family orientated gym that is positive and friendly, without overenthusiastic egos. All ranked classes are black belt instructed by owner Kevin Hosseini. In addition, all kids classes include trained assistant instructors to ensure small group and personal instruction.
