Romeo De Los Reyes
Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals instructor
Jiu-jitsu brown belt, law enforcement manager, police defensive tactics Instructor.
Coach Romeo is a Brazilian Jiu -Jitsu brown belt and currently teaches the Monday morning Fundamental Jiu-Jitsu Class. The aspect of coaching and encouragement through positive reinforcement is not new to Coach Romeo. He possesses extraordinary experience from his 30+ year stint as a law enforcement manager within an influential police department. He has instructed officers on defensive tactics since 2000, as well as the use of humane force and tactical communications. He is recognized as an adjunct instructor for the San Diego Community College District and a court-recognized use-of-force expert.
Coach Romeo started his training within Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2008 under Sensei Roy Harris and Sensei Darby Darrow. Unable to make the beginner classes, Coach Romeo decided it best to take a small hiatus from training. In 2010, when the Ramona Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/MMA Center opened, Coach Romeo began training under Professor Kevin as a white belt. Coach Romeo progressed exponentially since then, earning his blue, purple and now his brown belt.
In 1997, Coach Romeo began practicing the unique art of Eskrima. He is currently a 6th degree Master. During his Eskrima training, Coach Romeo was advised to identify gaps in this training with other areas of the martial arts. Coach Romeo sought instruction in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to deal with the range Arnis and Eskrima did not cover; the ground fight. This being the primary focus of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has led to Coach Romeo into becoming a tenacious and well-rounded competitor.
Attend Coach Romeo’s classes to gain an emphasis on how to master the basics, as well as to utilize the mechanics of leverage in order to overcome situations when the odds are stacked against you, such as weight discrepancies between small vs. large opponents.
